Cat & Dog Food FAQs

Where is NutriSource pet food made?
NutriSource and Tuffy's are made by Tuffy's Pet Foods, a third-generation family-owned company based in Perham, MN — right here in Minnesota. Unlike many national brands that outsource manufacturing, Tuffy's makes every formula in their own facility, giving them full control over ingredient quality, freshness, and safety. It's genuinely local pet food you can trust.

Is grain-free dog food better for my dog?
Grain-free diets work well for dogs with grain sensitivities or allergies, but they're not necessary for all dogs. Most dogs digest grains like rice and oats without issue. NutriSource offers both grain-inclusive and grain-free formulas so you can choose based on your dog's specific needs and health history. If your dog has digestive issues or skin problems, a grain-free trial may be worth trying.

What's the difference between NutriSource and Tuffy's Gold?
NutriSource is Tuffy's premium line — featuring higher-quality protein sources, probiotics, and specialized formulas for life stage, breed size, and dietary needs. Tuffy's Gold is a high-value, performance-focused formula available in large 40lb bags, ideal for active dogs or multi-dog households where cost-per-pound matters. Both are made in the same Minnesota facility to the same quality standards.

How do I transition my pet to a new food?
Transition gradually over 7–10 days to avoid digestive upset. Start with 75% old food and 25% new food for the first few days, then move to 50/50, then 25% old and 75% new, and finally 100% new food. Slower transitions work better for sensitive stomachs. If you notice loose stools or vomiting, slow the transition further.

Do you carry food for specific breed sizes or life stages?
Yes — we carry NutriSource formulas for puppies, adults, small/medium breeds, and large breeds, as well as cat formulas for kittens, adults, and senior/weight management. If you need a specific formula we don't have in stock, message us and we'll do our best to source it for you.
